A MYSTERY headline act is being lined up for Okehampton?s own mini summer festival ? the third annual Okehampton Battle of the Bands contest. Competition organiser Richard Appleby said while the focus of the event remained on promoting new bands and musicians from the local area, he had also secured a bigger name headline band to play at the Simmons Park final ? he could not reveal the name at this stage. The bands who will take part in the grand evening final in the park on Saturday, August 12, will again be selected through three heats held in the Charter Hall. The first heat will take place on Thursday, July 20, with subsequent heats on July 27 and August 3. Mr Appleby, who runs Millennium Music in Okehampton Arcade, said preparations for the event were already well underway, and he was looking to open up the application process for aspiring bands from April 1. Mr Appleby said that, as previously, the prize for the competition winners was the invaluable experience of time in a professional recording studio, with runners-up prizes, including new guitars.
