P&D Premier League Cup

Mount Gould BP 2

Tavistock Seconds 4

TAVISTOCK continued their good run of form with an emphatic win over a highly rated team.

The home side dictated the opening 20 minutes and went ahead after some sloppy defending.

This seemed to wake Tavistock up and they took control, scoring twice before the break.

The first came from a corner with Symons and Bradford combining well for Hawkins to head in from the back post. Young Steve Daymond scored the second when he cut in from the left and made no mistake with a fine solo effort.

Just before the interval Tavistock could have increased their lead when both Hawkins and Daymond hit the bar and post respectively.

Tavistock changed up a gear in the second half. Good work by Payne, Halfyard and Pocknell in midfield, enabled Brownlow to put Hawkins through on goal for his second.

Tavistock, who seemed to get stronger, started playing some good football and soon put the game out of reach when good work by Mellor set up Hawkins to get his third with a blistering drive into the roof of the net.

In the last minute Mount Gould scored their second, but it was not enough and Tavistock progress into the next round.

Tavistock Seconds 1

Plymstock Utd 0

AFTER a two-week lay-off, Tavistock continued their winning ways by beating high flying Plymstock.

Tavistock without the services of Steve Shaw (first team), saw Dave Symons fill the vacant centre half position alongside captain Jonny Bradford.

The first half was a scrappy affair with both sides unable to break down the other's defence.

The second half saw Tavistock create a few openings with Gibson and Brownlow going close. At the other end, Howells pulled off a string of saves to deny the visitors.

In the final 20 minutes Tavistock's pressure finally paid off when Brownlow coolly chipped the ball over the keeper to keep them top of the table.
