PEOPLE can have their say on the latest proposals to upgrade Tavistock's Guildhall Square toilets at the town's pannier market later this month. The plans go on display in the market on Thursday January 18, Friday January 19 and Saturday January 20 from 9.30am to 3.30pm — West Devon Borough Council officers will be on hand to answer any questions. The borough council is working closely with Tavistock Town Council to provide improved public toilet facilities at the town centre site. Both authorities have committed a total of £150,000 to upgrade the facilities which temporarily closed in the autumn. Cllr Jayne Hill, chairman of the borough council's environment and community committee, said: 'We need to know what people think of the proposals to help both councils make an informed decision on the plans. 'I would urge people to go along and look at the plans and have their say. It's so important that residents are involved in the process.' Cllr Caroline Keane, mayor of Tavistock, also encouraged people to look at the plans. 'The proposals incorporate as many ecological and environmentally sustainable energy features as possible so we hope residents will find them interesting,' she said. The new toilets will include baby-changing facilities, will be fully compliant with disabled access legislation and, as far as is possible, will use the existing façade of the building. Following the consultation, an architect will be appointed to let and oversee the works which are aimed to be completed later this year. In the meantime, temporary toilets are in place next to the Guildhall.
