A NEWLY established animal rescue and re-homing group based in West Devon is to hold its first annual show near Milton Abbot this month.

The Scruples Show is being organised by Scruples Whippet Rescue and will be held at Ramsdown during the weekend of September 24 and 25.

Field and working events for lurchers, whippets and terriers including simulated coursing, hurdles, long jump and straight racing will be held on the Saturday, starting at 9.30am.

On the Sunday, beginning at 1pm, there will be a family dog show for all breeds, with four categories, whippets, lurcher, terriers and family dogs, with championships for each category and also championships for racing and lure coursing on the Saturday. Championship rosettes will be presented and winners will qualify for next year's South West lurcher and whippet championships.

There will be catering at the show courtesy of Kaye's Kitchen, trade stands and a raffle.

Shane and Jane Wood, who are organising the show, hope it will provide a great day out for all the family — including the four-legged members.

Scruples Whippet Rescue was founded in April 2010 by Jane Wood, who lives with her husband Shane near Lewdown.  

Scruples operates across England, Wales and Scotland and will rescue, rehabilitate and rehome any whippet regardless of its purity of breeding.  They also offer a safe rehoming service for owners who find themselves in the sad position of having to part with their much-loved whippet.

Since April 2010, Scruples has re-homed more than 125 whippets and there are now four trustees running Scruples between them, with a small army of volunteers across the country who give up their time and their homes to help with fostering, homechecking, transporting and fund raising.
