Tavistock Ladies Firsts 3

Plymouth Seconds 0

THIS friendly hockey match started with strong attacking play from Tavistock and excellent passing skills demonstrated by Sue Cork, Lisa Hogan and Becky Hutton.

The first goal was awarded to Tavistock as Judy Smallacombe struck the ball past the keeper.

The efforts of Susannah Harland, Fiona Dunn and Emma Bowden paid dividends and at half-time the scoreline read 1-0.

Tavistock opened the second half again with good interception of the ball and although Plymouth broke through the midfield of Tavistock on numerous occasions, keeper Rebecca Creasy defended any attempts they made.

Tavistock re-formed which allowed the second goal to be scored, again from Smallacombe. The ball was struck into the D by Laura Armstrong and Smallacombe deflected it into the goal. Minutes after, Smallacombe scored her hat-trick.

Captain Fiona Dunn was extremely happy with the result as it will give Tavistock the boost of confidence needed when they play Plymouth Seconds in their last league match.

Player of the match: Kath Collar.

This Saturday Tavistock play a league match away to Okehampton.

TAVISTOCK were severely depleted at the start of this friendly, having only nine players due to the half-term holiday and illness. Mannamead allowed two spectating young boys to join in and make up the numbers.

The first half was even with snatches of good play. The Tavistock defence held up well and the score at half-time was 1-1, Anna Johnson scoring for Tavistock.

In the second half, tiredness began to tell and Mannamead were the more threatening team. In the last 15 minutes they scored twice to make the final score 3-1.

Plymouth University Seconds 9

UNIVERSITY started strongly and put away three goals in quick succession. Tavistock settled and played a better game defensively. Laura Armstrong made a spectacular run to score Tavistock's first goal.

This lifted Tavistock and another goal came from the stick of Gaynor Pollard.

In the second half despite reorganisation, Tavistock found themselves under pressure. University played some telling hockey, pushing the scoreline further.

Gaynor Pollard and Laura Armstrong each scored again but University had the accuracy.
