Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 8 Falmouth 6 THIS was going to be a tough match for Tavistock as they were set to play the top of the league team. The game started with Tavistock being the dominant team and in possession of the ball. Susannah Boulle and Laura Stapleton were quick to feed the ball to the forwards and the speed of Laura Armstrong allowed Tavistock to take an early goal as Armstrong slotted it neatly past the keeper. Robynne Honey and Jo Gaspar worked well and were able to take some shots at the keeper which resulted in a short corner being awarded to Tavistock. A direct strike from Stapleton put Tavistock another goal up and the team were becoming more and more confident. Fiona Dunn and Babs Horton battled well in defence and although Falmouth were not making any dominant attacks, goalkeeper Bex Creasy made some excellent saves and kept the team in the match. Honey had the ball and with Julia Firth and Sarah Barratt they managed to outwit the opposition and allowed Honey to score her first goal of the match. This took the score to 3-0. However, a break in the midfield saw Falmouth in possession of the ball and a weak tackle on the edge of the ?D? allowed them to score. Tavistock were not off by this and with Barratt and Boulle working so hard to distribute the ball to the forwards it was not long before Firth took advantage of this and scored, taking the score at half-time to 4-1 to Tavistock. The second half saw a more dominant Falmouth and they scored another early goal. Tavistock had lost their positional play slightly and more silly mistakes were being made. This was soon rectified as Jenny Young worked hard to tackle players and move the opposition around the pitch in order to create free space. Honey scored her second goal as she dribbled along the base line and slotted the ball easily into the goal. The score was 5-2 a healthy position for Tavistock to be in. However, with nothing to lose, Falmouth brought all their players up the pitch and scored three goals in a row to level the match. Falmouth went in the lead to 6-5 and with still 15 minutes to go, Tavistock knew not to panic. Zoe Viggers played well in defence and made some excellent block tackles. Firth scored the next equaliser and then Tavistock started to turn the tables in order to take the lead. Stapleton had an excellent shot at goal which resulted in Tavistock taking the score to 7-6. With only five minutes left Honey scored her hat trick and the final goal of the match which secured the win for Tavistock. The final score was 8-6 to Tavistock. A well deserved victory. This week Tavistock play St Agnes away at Truro with a 1.30pm start. Player of the match: Bex Creasy.
