POLICE Desk, the Okehampton Times (January 2): Between 10pm and 11pm Friday December 20, in Bridge Street, Hatherleigh a 65-year-old woman was assaulted, causing her serious injury.
Some quite reasonable women have been hesitant about being alone in Hatherleigh at night for some time and this assault proves their fears were not groundless.
Police are asking witnesses to come forward. But why should they go through that old routine? The criminal and the hooligan are at large to inflict violence, to spread fear and intimidation among reasonable citizens. Our law has become a toothless old bull-dog.
Where are we going? Shall we all in desperation start thieving off each other or can we find a leader who will put us on a path of sanity and restore corporal punishment, controlled in a democratic society?
