THE lives of some of Tavistock's oldest residents — covering continents as well as much of the last century — have been documented in a book launched last week.

'A Harvest of Years' has been written by a group of 12 people, clients at Social Services' Harewood Day Centre.

It began as a project with only minor ambitions to begin recording and sharing the unique stories of their lives, but ended with the publication of the book for a much broader audience to enjoy.

'I never thought we'd get so far,' said one of the writers Doris Hadgkiss. 'It has been very interesting doing it — the lives these people have led are riveting.

'They say you never know how the other half lives, but you can by reading these stories.'

The book is available from the day centre and local shops, priced £4.95, but readers will have to hurry — the authors are snapping up many of them to send to friends and relatives.
