Tavistock Ladies 3 Exe Ladies Thirds 1 THIS match was crucial for Tavistock ladies hockey team in order to get some points in the league table. With a new format in place in terms of positional play it was going to be a tactical and skilful game. The game opened with Tavistock on the attack and the opposition having to fight hard to win possession of the ball. Sarah Barratt worked hard through midfield and linked well with Susannah Boulle and it was impossible to stop Barratt once she had the ball. Tavistock?s Laura Stapleton worked hard in defence and was able to have some good runs up the pitch knowing there were still three solid defenders behind her in play. Jo Gaspar and Becky Lamb made some good linking movements with the ball moving at full pace and strength. Barratt scored the first goal from an excellent drive up the pitch and then into the ?D?. Laura Armstrong for the home side battled well in what was a new position for her while sweeper Fiona Dunn made some good solid attacks. Judy Miller scored the second goal of the match as the ball was crossed into the ?D? by Robynne Honey. In the second half numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock but the team could not capitalise on them. The third goal was scored again by Barratt. An early ball across the top of the ?D? resulted in the opposition scoring their only goal of the match. Captain Fiona Dunn was pleased with the amount of space and freedom the new formation allowed the team to have during the match. l This week Tavistock play Plymouth and Marjons Second XI at Marjons at 11am.
