Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 7 Chudleigh 1 THE game opened with Tavistock hockey players having to work hard to keep Chudleigh from entering the ?D?. Chudleigh had an early break and the defending was not as strong as it should have been and Chudleigh saw a break and took a strike at goal. Goalkeeper, Bex Creasy, saved the shot but the ball hit a defender?s foot resulting in a short corner from which Chudleigh scored the first goal of the match. With Robynne Honey back on the pitch, the forwards were now able to play wide and pass and move the ball between themselves and the strong midfield play of Emma White and Laura Stapleton. Tavistock were now a different team as they were passing the ball and creating as many chances of shots on goal as possible. Honey hit the ball across and Armstrong got a touch on it in the ?D? but it was Gaspar that equalised the score. Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and it was through one of these that Gaspar took a strong strike at the keeper, putting the score at half-time at 2-1 to Tavistock. Tavistock were hungry for more goals. Babs Horton had some good tackles and hit some excellent balls through to Boulle and Armstrong. These two players were strong on the left and Armstrong created many goal opportunities for the rest of the forwards. Miller scored the next two goals from hanging in the ?D? and waiting for the key shot to be played into the goal from any of the Tavistock players. These occasions were high as Butler and Honey were chasing down every ball and keeping it in play. With Dunn and Stapleton pushing up on the half way line, the opposition never had a chance to break through as they were run off the ball every time. Gaspar scored her hat trick of the match from a good ball in from White, this took the score to 5-1. It was not long before the next goal came from Honey as she drove up the pitch and took a lovely strike at the keeper from an awkward angle. With all the team playing really well and players running down every ball Miller scored the final goal by taking the goalkeeper on in a one on one situation. Chudleigh had a lucky break in the last few minutes resulting in a couple of short corners awarded against Tavistock. Dunn was out quick and with strong clearances from Creasy, Chudleigh had little chance of scoring. It was good for the team to have Creasy back in goal as a strong and confident keeper.
