Tavistock U15 girls 17

KICKING off, the more powerful Newquay team quickly pinned Tavistock back in their 22.  Tavistock defended hard with great tackling from Beth Hodgkiss and Annabel Longden until the home team's forwards forced the ball over the line for the first try.

Not to be deterred, the Tavistock pushed forward from the kick off and, after great offloading from captain Bronwyn Rundle and Lilly Hilson the pass reached Lauren Dawe to score under the posts.  Longden securing the extra two points with a drop kick.  On the up, Tavistock fought hard, passing the ball well out of the tackle to keep the ball alive and avoid the Newquay forwards' dominance in the scrum and rucks, and rounded off the first half with a superb second by Kim Upcott who used her strength to force the ball over the line for a 5-12 half time score.

After half time Newquay quickly forced Tavistock back, with two tries from lineouts in Tavy's 22 immediately following the kick-off and a third from a scrum.

Tavistock fought back and, when a terrific break from Hilson was halted by a crunching tackle from Newquay, Rundle's close support enabled her to pick the ball up and beat the final home defender to score.  Newquay continued to pile on the pressure and, as Tavistock's players tired the home side scored two further tries.  This was a terrific effort from all the Tavistock team who worked hard right to the final whistle.
