THERE was a record entry of more than 400 posters this year from seven of Tavistock's local schools, for the annual peace poster competition, organised by the Lions Club of Tavistock.

The title was 'Vision of Peace'.

Lion Alan Wroath, who organised the competition on behalf of the club, said: 'The quality of the posters this year was amazing and it was very hard to pick the winner.'

Best in school were: Lauren Walker (St Peter's Junior School), Bethan Wesley (Mount House School), Martha Peach (Tavistock Primary School), Georgina Watts (Mary Tavy and Brentor Community Primary School), Lois Fileman (St Andrew's Primary School), Tyler Lamb (Horrabridge Primary School), and Maddie Cann (Lifton Primary School).

The best poster overall was Bethan Wesley's, with a beautiful picture of a dove over the world.

The shield for the best entries from a school this year went to Tavistock Primary School.

Bethan's poster will be forwarded on to the next stage of the competition for the South West, the winner of which will then be entered into the national competition.

The national winner goes on to the international competition for which the prize is a trip to the award ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York and a cash award of more than £1,000!

Alan thanked everybody for taking part and wished Bethan the very best of luck for the next stage of the competition.
