OKEHAMPTON played their first round Palairet match against Hurdwick at Holsworthy on Sunday.

A hard fought match saw Okehampton winning by four to one.

Okehampton team: J Mansell and I Moore won; D Owen and M Soby won; K Pedrick and A Hawking won; G Holt and D Prouse won; K Cornwall and K Harkness won.

Okehampton will be playing Yelverton in the next round.

Okehampton continued their good start to the Dartmoor League season with an excellent away win at Teign Valley on Saturday. The match score was Okehampton 3, Teign Valley 2. This puts Okehampton top of the Dartmoor League with 10 1/2 points.

A total of 127 men played the May Medal on Saturday. Dull and damp conditions early on did not affect Graham Moysey as he carded a net 62 to win division one by two strokes from Barry Coaker. John Tolley also won by two shots in division two with a net 63.

Ladies? section: The rain held off long enough for Dawn Phillot to have the game of her life in the monthly stableford. Dawn, who played off 11, was 2 over on the the front 9 and came back in scratch, giving her a superb score of 45 points and a reduction in handicap to 9.

Second in the silver division was Amanda Clifford (16) with another great score of 39 points and a reduction in handicap to 14.

Bronze division: 1, Chris Stevens (26) 35; 2, Maureen Willcocks (30) 33.

In the Willes Little, Dawn Phillott and Penny Deakin played against Fingle Glen at Teign Valley, winning on the 18th , and in the Daily Mail Foursomes against Crediton, Dawn and Cherry James won their match on the 19th.
