South Molton 0 Tavistock 16 TAVISTOCK travelled to South Molton on Saturday and completed a workmanlike if unspectacular win that gave them the league double over their North Devon rivals. The pitch was heavy from recent rain and this stopped Tavistock exploiting their superiority in the backs and the game was played amongst the forwards where Tavistock, although holding the upper hand, were not as dominant. The first half was more free flowing than the second and Tavistock tested the South Molton defence with some good interplay amongst forwards and backs. Featuring strongly in many of these moves was flanker Will Brown, in his first start for some time and centre Lawrence Evans who was easily the best back on show. After absorbing continuous Tavistock pressure South Molton transgressed once too often for the referee's liking and had their influential second row sent to the sin bin. Tavistock took advantage of the numeric superiority and score a try via fly half Doug Lloyd. Two penalty goals from full back Josh Sutton took Tavistock to an 11 point lead at half time. Early in the second half Tavistock extended their lead to 16 points when second row Darren Cole peeled off a driving maul to claim a touchdown. From there on Tavistock were forced to defend but despite pressing the Tavistock line the South Molton were unable to break through. This win sees Tavistock back to fourth place in the league and handily placed should those teams in front of them drop points. l On Saturday Tavistock entertain Honiton in a rearranged Cornwall and Devon League game, kick off 2.30pm. South Molton 2nds 0 Tavistock 2nds 62 ON an overcast Saturday afternoon, with a sloping pitch in good condition following inclement weather, Tavistock 2nds continued their recent good form with another emphatic win. Once again Tavistock forwards won good ball from rucks, mauls and scrums, which allowed fly half Credicott to distribute excellent ball to the fast running backs. In the first half tries came from Neil Evans, four; winger Barnie Owls and number eight Jude Rotten. Credicott kicked five conversions to bring the score to 0-40. Playing uphill in the second half Tavistock added a further 22 points from wing forward Tom Charlesworth, Neil Evans, second row Steve Long and a second try from Jude Rotten, with Credicott kicking one conversion. Although the final score was well deserved by Tavistock, credit must be given to South Molton who never gave up. l Next Saturday Tavistock Seconds away to Plymouth Civil Service in a Lockie Cup fixture.
