TavistockRFC 1st 31pts Wadebridge 10pts TAVISTOCK ended the year with a resounding league win which avenged an earlier league defeat four weeks before. This victory now leaves them just above mid table a position which, considering this is their first year in a higher league, is commendable especially bearing in mind injuries to key players within the squad. From the kick off Tavistock took play into the Wadebridge half. Scrum half Lee Greatrex fed fly half Josh Sutton who put a kick through the Wadebridge defence, winger Richard Huish kicked the ball on and centre Joe Lane dived on the ball to claim the try. Wadebridge responded almost immediately with a rolling maul of their own. They worked their way relentlessly toward the Tavistock line and Ian Bolling was driven over to score a try that was converted by Rob Rowe. Tavistock soon regained the lead, which they did not let slip for the rest of the game. The forwards drove the ball close to the Wadebridge line. This provided the platform for fly half Josh Sutton to power over from close range for a try which he converted himself. Before half time Wadebridge then reduced the arrears with a Rob Rowe penalty. As the game wore on and the conditions worsened the older and heavier Tavistock pack took control. Skipper Lee Greatrex scored the third Tavistock try with an individual effort that saw him cross close to the posts, Sutton converted. The Tavistock forwards continued to take the game to Wadebridge and Andy Hunt increased their lead when he drove over the line to secure the try. Further pressure from the forwards should have brought greater reward but some dogged defence and a number of mistakes when attacking by Tavistock restricted them to one further try. The try was scored via pushover from a five metre scrum by number eight Andrew Griffiths. Josh Sutton converted with the last kick of the game. The next game is at Sandy Park on Boxing Day when the Captain?s Fifteen take on the Chairman?s Fifteen in the annual holiday game. Kick off 12pm and everyone is welcome to come along and renew old acquaintances.
