Tavistock 12 Okehampton 17 THE match was evenly contested with perhaps Tavistock having the edge in the forwards and Okehampton in the backs. This showed up when on a number of occasions the forwards including Ward, Smerdon and Smith would make great progress upfield in the mauls, only for Okes to regain the territory through their backs. In the lineouts Pluckrose and Leeson gained useful possession and the back row of Robinson, Morgan and O?Neill helped tidy up around the fringes. Okes scored first and converted but Tavistock soon struck back when O?Neill broke from the base of the scrum and could not be stopped by the Okes defence. Warlow added the conversion. After some good forward play by the forwards, possession was lost and Okes span the ball along the backs for their wing to score a converted try, and soon after they kicked a penalty. In the second half Tavistock were camped inside the Okes? 22 for long periods. From a 5 metre scrum Thompson gave a good feed to Warlow who passed on to Morgan whose half break gave Man of the Match Silvester the chance he needed to cross the line for the only score of the half. Attempted breakouts by Okes were well dealt with by the back three of Lane, White, Brown and sub Smith but, despite constant pressure from Tavistock throughout the second half, Okehampton managed to hang on to their lead.
