OKEHAMPTON resident, Gwyn Dickinson, recently received an MBE from the Queen, in recognition of her tireless efforts to help and support those with Macular Degeneration (MD).

The condition is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK, affecting more than 500,000 people.

Gwyn is also president of national charity, the Macular Disease Society — the only charity to help specifically those living with the effects of MD.

The society is run by volunteers and has 200 local support groups nationwide.

Anyone who wants more information on MD can phone the Macular Disease Society helpline service on 0845 241 2041.
