Tavistock Colts 41 Saltash Colts 12 TAVISTOCK, skippered by Tom Vanstone, enjoyed their biggest win of the season against a young but determined Saltash side. After a most structured warm up, Tavistock started the game with all guns blazing and Dave Vince at number 8 took the final pass to power in under the posts after a good forward drive upfield. Jed Bolt, backing up the ball carrier on the left wing, finished a great move by the threes, followed soon after by a try by Dan Smith after a smart interception and a 50metre sprint. Stand off James Kaminski scored one of his own after his trademark elusive running through the midfield. Half time score was 24-7 to Tavistock. Despite being the fitter and bigger side, Tavistock took their combined foot off the gas for periods of the second half, but still added a further three tries. Dave Vince grabbed his second try before Tim Child bustled his way through the last line of defence to score under the posts. A final break by Dan Smith saw him give a generous yet unnecessary pass for Ian Rooke to touch down under the posts. James Nichols scored both tries for Saltash although the referee awarded the second as a penalty try for not retiring for a penalty. James and Sam Lawson with Ian Rooke in the second row, showed good second row skills and the tireless work of Branfield and Friend contributed hugely to the win. The quality of rugby played by Tavistock and some of the handling was first class. Conversions: Vanstone (2), Kaminski (1).
