GUNNISLAKE Football Club held its annual end of season presentation evening at the White Hart Hotel, Launceston. There were 53 attendees enjoying the evening that, once again, was excellently organised by committee members Tracy Kelly and Dean Martin. Secretary Michael Kinger, Dean Martin and vice-president Ian Southcott led the speeches before first team managers Tim May, and second team manager Garf Ewing announced the trophy winners with Ian making the presentations. For the second team, Steve Gaggini scooped the manager's player award, Ian Gray the players' player and Nathan Dore the leading scorer trophy. The first team winners were manager's player Mark Warwick, players' player Stef Kelly and leading scorer, for a third consecutive year, Jarryd Kelly. Neil Kinger, who has been with the club for 11 years since he was 16, was presented with a trophy to acknowledge his outstanding playing contribution in that time – towards the end of the season Neil suffered a reoccurrence of a bad knee injury and is unlikely to play competitive football again. Mike King took the young player of the year trophy. And the last, but by no means least, trophy to be presented was the Club person of the season and this very much deservedly went to Garf Ewing. With the past season now put to bed the new campaign is much underway. Training started yesterday and will continue every Wednesday at 7 pm at Gunnislake playing fields with the sessions being taken by FA qualified trainers. The club has already arranged several friendly fixtures and will be glad to hear from anyone interested in joining them, or at least coming to training to see if Gunnislake FC is for them - please call Garf on 07812935352. On Sunday the club holds its second annual golf day at Trethorne Golf Club — organised by Nigel and Bridget Doidge. Gunnislake FC holds its annual meeting on Wednesday, July 9 at 8 pm in the Buccaneer Inn, Gunnislake.
