A GUN was fired by veteran member Dick Toop to start the Famous Grouse foursomes shotgun competition at Tavistock Golf Club.
Strong winds made playing conditions difficult but the partnership of Chris Higgins and Mike Craze posted a nett score of 73.5.
Runners-up were Simon Gilder and John Gawman with a nett 75 on the back nine from Mike Apps and T Cooper.
Five 2s were made by B Pennington and G Foster on the third, D Johns and K Parris (sixth), B Green and D Lobb (fifth), K Kendall and G Williams (fifth) and M Kitchenham and P Jury (14).

Easter stableford and George Kitley Trophy on March 31: Division 1 S Washer 39 points, division 2 B Green 37 pts.

The winners of the junior/adult foursomes stableford played on Easter Friday were father and son Rob and Sam Brockington with 31 points. Runners-up were mother and son Maggie and Tom Hillman with 29 points.
President nonagenarian Albert Rowse will be first on the tee for the opening of the new course on April 20.
Results from the ladies' section - Australian Spoons stableford foursomes (bronze division) competition on March 26: Winners Olive Batten and Rina Stoner with 28 points who qualified to play at St Austell Golf Club on July 26.
Runners-up Ginny Sambourne and Brigit Sach.
Also played on March 26 was the Tunisian Salver competition organised by the Douglas Bader Foundation.
Winners Trudi Luke and Shirley Trevena with 41 points will go forward to play in the regional finals at Launceston in August.
If successful in the next round they will win an all expenses trip to Tunisia to play in the grand final in November.
The Coronation foursomes medal competition played on April 2 was won by Elaine Cooper and Lesley Moore with a nett score of 75. Runners-up were Sue Gowing and Elizabeth Holmes with a nett 76.
The best 100 scores in the country will go forward to play in the Ladies' Golf Union final at Tidworth Garrison in Wiltshire in June.
Ann Russell was the winner of the Eileen Abel Trophy stableford competition played by the lady vets last month.
