A NATIONAL music magazine has compared a former Tavistock College student?s guitar playing with those of world stature. Thirty-two-year-old Conrad Harpham, who has been playing guitar since he was 14 in local churches and bands, was described by Cross Rhythms magazine as ?a musical virtuoso of the highest standards? and his CD as an ?incredible showcase of masterful guitar playing in the style of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai?. Conrad said: ?They are famous in America for instrumental guitar, and are big in this genre of music, which is guitar playing in a band without vocals.? He currently fronts his own Conrad Harpham three-piece instrumental band and plays for local jazz/ funk outfit ?Dimitri?. Conrad, who lives at Newton Abbott, said: ?I am currently looking at opportunities within the United States, as instrumental guitar music is really popular there. ?The Conrad Harpham band is also soon to tour locally and are currently taking bookings into next year. ?It looks like 2007 should be quite exciting.?
