TAVISTOCK Rugby Club is going cowpat crazy to raise money for new club facilities.
The club is hoping to raise £65,000 for a new pitch by asking people to sponsor a square metre of it for £10.
A cow will then be brought in and the first square in which the cow drops a steaming cowpat on is the winner of the £5,000 prize.
There are 6,500 square metres for sale and all the buyers will have their names engraved on a board in Tavistock Rugby Club's clubhouse.
In addition there are four prizes of £500 each using the same tickets and these will be drawn as a traditional raffle the same time as the winner of the £5,000 is announced at the rugby club on April 23.
Tickets can be obtained from any rugby club member or in Bedford Square every Saturday morning or from retail outlets in the town.
Club secretary Jeff Lawson said the club had ten youth sides from under sevens to under 16s, three girls and ladies' sides and three senior teams.
'We have a very successful club and have outgrown our facilities,' he said.
'With another pitch we can segregate the teams and improve the club for everyone.'
The rugby club has received funding from RFU Twickenham to help drain the pitch and install floodlighting.
Anyone who wants further information about the fundraising venture or club in general can call Jeff Lawson on 01822 616588.
