THE Brian Bounsall Trophy was held at Tavistock Golf Club on July 31 and August 1 between the host club, Yelverton and Staddon Heights.

After the Saturday 4 B B B competition, Staddon held a 3 points lead over Tavistock. The Sunday foursomes saw the home team score 11 out of 12 points to go into the afternoon singles competition with a 2 points lead over Staddon.

With the afternoon breeze getting stronger players found the course more testing than over the first two rounds, which was reflected in the scoring.

Again, home knowledge proved to be a big advantage with home players winning five out of the eight groups and second in two more; the surprise being James Ruth finishing third in his group.

The Yelverton team which had appeared to struggle over the first two rounds, scored well, with Scott Davey having the best individual score of the day with a 68.

This lifted Yelverton to second place overall, pipping Staddon Heights by half a point, the home team comfortable winners with 35 1/2 points overall.

In the absence of the recuperating Brian Bounsall, last year?s winning club captain, Tim Shobrook of Yelverton presented home club captain, Peter Masoli, with this year?s Brian Bounsall trophy.

The Open 4 ball better ball held on August 7 was well subscribed with 164 players competing in dry but breezy conditions.

In the afternoon the wind played an even bigger part making conditions more difficult which was reflected in the scoring, with the winning scores being mainly from the morning competitors.

The winning pair was David Johns and Kevin Parris with 43 points. Competing for the remaining top places there were four pairs with 41 points each with the results being decided over the back 9 and back 6 holes. They were: John Harris and Peter Harding, N Sellick and C Channon, Tom Dodd and Shaun Getson and Geoff Gibbon and Rick Harrison.

The best score was Tony Finnigan and Shaun Kiely with 40 points, scant consolation for a good score in difficult conditions.

Twos were scored by Tom Dodd and Shaun Getson on the 7th and 10th, Tony and Mark Ingram, A Treble and S Treble, R Holness and G Booth, D Easterbrook and D Walker, Rod and Tom Hillman, Graham Chaplin and Patrick Stewart, M Jarvis and P Baker all winning eight balls per pair.
