EXHIBITORS went the extra mile at Milton Abbot Village Show on September 14. The theme of the show was 'Travel' and John Killingbeck brought his polar sled along for all to see.
Mr Killingbeck has worked for several years in the Antarctic and was able to talk about his travel experiences to the show visitors. He also presented the winning prizes and spoke fondly of his ties with the village.
There were strong entries in all sections, particularly art and crafts, with the highest points in the handicraft classes being awarded jointly to Lorna Stroop Nilsson and Liz Padmore. Liz also won the cup for the best exhibit in the handicraft classes. Photography was also well represented with Lorna also winning the cup for the highest points in this section. David Nilsson won the Marker Cup for the best exhibit in the photography section. Kirsty Cox took all three cups in the children's classes, winning the highest points for the cookery and handicraft classes, the highest points in the flower classes and the overall cup for the highest points.
Daisy and Holly Wilson were delighted to win the prize for the best exhibit in the children's classes with their joint effort. There were also joint winners in the art classes with Doreen Atkinson and Mrs Burchell taking the art group trophy for the highest points in the art classes. Denise Head took the prize for the best exhibit in the art classes.
Tim Randell won the set recipe prize for his Madiera cake and his wife Amanda Randell took the prize for the best exhibit in the floral art classes. Floral entries were strong this year following a fine summer. Sonja Watson won the cup for the highest points in the floral art classes. Sheila Martin took the cup for the best rose in the show with her scented rose. Julia Martin took a cup for the best exhibit in the flower classes with her hydrangeas and won the cup for the highest number of points in the flower classes.
Arthur Vigars and Andrew Lopes were joint winners for the highest points in the fruit classes, with Andrew Lopes also winning the cup for best vegetables in the show with his parsnips and the highest points in the vegetable classes.
Lorna Stroop Nilsson won the best exhibit in the cookery classes with her home-made wine and gained the highest points in the cookery classes. She also won the cup for the lady with the highest points in the show. Andrew Lopes won the cup for the gentleman gaining the highest points in the show.
The show was well attended by both exhibitors and supporters and organisers expressed thanks to all involved and are already making plans for next year's show. Anyone who wishes to help with running next years' show can contact show organiser Sonja Watson.
