TEAM Grizzly headed to Polzeath on Sunday for a really tough 19 mile training run. This run was no different from the usual Sunday run, in that it had lots and lots hills, lots of mud, sand and beautiful views.
The team of 11 are members of Bere Alston Trekkers, Tavistock Athletics and the Monday Men group are: Dotty Allan (Mummy Bear and captain), Julian Setterington (Daddy Bear), Ben Wilcox (Fozzi Bear), Erin Jarvis (Boo-Boo Bear), Hannah Colston (Goldilocks), Jim Davis (Yogi Bear), John Martin (Scramble Bear), Natalie Bond (Smallish Bear), Derek Hicks (Baloo Bear), Vicki Lloyd (Teddy Bear) and Martyn Williams (Sailor Bear). (Reserves are John Bills and Becky Mingo).
The training runs have taken the Bears mostly off-road and across Dartmoor where they have had to battle in temperatures of -10, through bogs, up and over Tors, through rivers and knee-deep snow and up and down lot and lots of very hard hills.
The Grizzly has been described as 'twentyish muddy, hilly, boggy, beachy miles of the multiest-terrain running experience you will find this side of the end of time.' Team Grizzly are raising money for Barnado's, Dartmoor Rescue Group and Tavistock Youth Cafe, the team understand that there is not a lot of spare money around but every penny would make a difference for the chosen charities.
