Tavistock 0
Plymouth Argyle 6
DESPITE atrocious weather there was a good attendance at Langsford Park for this friendly. The Pilgrims took the opportunity to look at trialist Steve Lovell from Portsmouth and give a run-out to various players coming back from injury and match practice.
They took the lead after four minutes when Matt McGowan fired home from the edge of the area then supplied the cross for his brother Jamie to put them two up.
Tavistock keeper Andy Meeds was in constant action saving well from Lovell on 12 minutes. French wing back Sasha Opinel saw two efforts saved and John Gosling cleared off the line.
Lovell's pace caused the Lambs defence problems on the slippery surface and he almost scored shortly before the break, evading two tackles he ran half the length of the field only to see Meeds bring off another fine save.
The Pilgrims' French keeper had seen little of the ball until the 49th minute when he was called on to make a fine one-handed save from George Pitts.
They increased their lead when Steve Guinan saw his initial header blocked by Meeds but regained his balance to ram home the loose ball. He was on target again after 64 minutes to steer the ball home from 12 yards.
Matt McGowan then fired home a free kick from 25 yards off the underside of the crossbar before substitute Joe Broad put Lovell clear to lash the ball home from 15 yards nine minutes from time.
Despite the conditions it was a good workout for both sides with Argyle manager Paul Sturrock having the opportunity to look over some of his squad and for the Lambs to have the opportunity to play against professional opposition.
