CHEQUES totalling £1,800 were recently handed over to the Horrabridge Recreational Field Trust for a new village skate park.
A cheque for £1,000 was given by Horrabridge Friends and Neighbours Association on behalf of West Devon Homes Tenant Panel last Saturday. A further £800 came from the West Devon Community Safety Partnership.
The money means the skate park can now go ahead, but there is a slight delay while the position of a mine shaft in the corner of the recreation field is ascertained. This may mean the skate park is moved slightly, but youth club leader Rob Michelmore said it should still be ready by the end of May.
Jo Robinson, chair of the Friends and Neighbours Association, said local children had raised money by holding a rock concert in the village recently. They would also be fundraising at Easter for the project, doing jobs such as shopping and cleaning cars for people.
West Devon Homes tenant liaison officer Andy Ames said it was good to see different agencies working alongside the parish council to wards the project.
?It brings the community together, and brings pride in where we live,? Mr Ames said.
He said it was particularly pleasing to see young people getting involved.
It is hoped there will be further events in the near future. Anyone interested is invited to the next meeting of Horrabridge Friends and Neighbours Association on March 24 at 7pm at Horrabridge Primary School.
