Saltash United 1

Tavistock AFC 1

THE Lambs visited Saltash on the back of a great away win at Holsworthy last Wednesday evening, when they trounced their hosts by five goals to nil. Glyn Hobbs recorded his first hat trick of the season with Shane Krac and Adam Carter adding to the goal tally.

A minute's applause was held before the game in memory of Tim Halford the Saltash Manager who died two years ago.

Tavistock started at a tremendous pace putting the Saltash defence under pressure in the first 20 minutes, when both Shane Krac and Glyn Hobbs had goal-bound shots brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Griffiths.

The Lambs also had a penalty appeal turned down when Dave Hallett was clearly brought down in the penalty area. The visiting supporters could not believe it when the referee waved play on.

Play became more even after this period, but both sides were reduced to ten men after 26 minutes when Saltash midfielder Paul Chuwen and Lambs' skipper Will Stringer received straight red cards after a goal mouth melee. Stringer who appeared to do nothing wrong was dismissed, a decision by the referee that appeared to be unjustified.

Saltash were still being outplayed by the Lambs and had another good chance before the interval when Ben Davies right wing cross found Hobbs glancing header just wide of the far post, with Griffiths beaten.

Saltash came more into the game in the second half and broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when a flowing move between Clark, Sullivan and Doel resulted in Doel shrugging off Mike Arscott's challenge. He fired a low shot past Meeds into the far corner from 15 yards.

Tavistock again took the game to Saltash and kept them under constant pressure, and their efforts were finally rewarded when they were awarded a penalty for hand ball. Mark Conday converted the spot kick with aplomb.

The Lambs had a golden opportunity to take all three points, when they were awarded another penalty for handball in the 83rd minute. The outstanding Griffiths made a magnificent save from Mark Conday's spot kick.

This was another very good performance by the Lambs against one of the teams tipped for this year's league title, and puts the team in fine spirits for their visit to Clevedon in the FA Vase next Saturday, kick off 3pm.

A coach will be leaving the club at 10.30am. Anyone wishing to travel please contact Derek on 01822613563.
