FROM Samba to soul and jazz to African drumming, Tavistock?s Summer Music Festival provided a wealth of musical entertainment last weekend. ?An exciting weekend of varied and brilliant music,? was how Tavistock Mayor Jenny Metcalf described this latest event from the Tavistock Music Live organisation. ?It was such a mixture, which was good, masterminded by Peter Jones and his committee,? she said. ?It was particularly magical watching the concerts in the church with people stopping to listen as they passed by. ?The bands did very well performing in the soaring heat and the turnout was good considering we had to compete with a very hot weekend and people making for the beach.? Ten musical events were held in different venues throughout the town and included Okehampton College Big Band, the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra, The Dartmoor Duo, jazz saxophonist Martin Dale and a Samba percussion workshop.
