ONE hundred and twenty visitors enjoyed the vibrant colour filling Meavy Parish Hall for the summer show.
With entries well up, especially in the hydrangea and vegetable classes, and excellent standards maintained by all the exhibits, much thought was needed as each visitors own choice of the best in each class was used to select the winners.
Strong competition was engendered for the Gordon Cross trophy by the points system of selecting the winner as, achieving both second and third places in a class is equivalent to a first.
Guest of honour to present the trophies was Mrs Audrey Northmore, now of Tavistock, who actively supported the Society for many years.
Mary Helby, in her first year as show secretary, carried off the duties well, with some fun asides to lighten proceedings and Doris Potter enticed a lot of money from pockets and purses for the fine raffle prizes.
Avril Back organised the teas and home-made cakes, while Stephen Pine and society president, Cyril Sparey, sold members plants. Chairman Brenda Burt thanked Audrey, Mary and all who had helped to make another highly successful show.
The next meeting will be in Meavy Parish Hall on September 20 at 7.30pm when Alasdair Cameron will explain Aspects and Principles of Garden Design.
