NOT since 1991 have the ladies from Tavistock Golf Club had such a remarkable day in the Devon County Ladies Golf Association SW Foursomes.
At Thurlestone Golf Club in this year's competitions 98 pairs competed. With a winning score of 39 points, Tavistock's Bev Ruth and Nicky Gawman won on count back from a pair from Staddon Heights. Third were Tavistock's lady captain Maggie Hillman and Bridget Luckham with 37pts.
The SW Foursomes incorporate the inter club competition for the Western Morning News Trophy for which clubs nominate three pairs to represent them - the two best scores to count.
Lady captain Maggie Hillman's choice hit the jackpot with Tavistock's team winning the trophy with 74 pts.
'My thanks to all the Tavistock ladies - winners as well as those who also represented the club,' said a delighted Maggie. 'A great day for the club!'
In the ladies monthly Stableford Fran Horton in division one had 34pts on countback from Jayne Wright with Sally Hills third with 33 pts. In division two Elizabeth Holmes had 37pts on countback from Norma Thewlis. Third was Sally Timpson with 33pts. Patricia Mowle topped division three with 34pts, second Sue Pratley 33 pts and third Jenny Kay 30pts.
In the mens' John Morris Medal John Harding had a nett 66 closely followed by Steve Dickinson with nett 67. Third with nett 68 was Gene Thompson on countback from Sam Hurdwell.
In division two another nett 66 was scored by Shaun Dixon with Darren Hall in second place with nett 67. Third Julian Collinson with nett 69. In Division 3 first Andy Furse nett 67, second Pete Kelly nett 73 and with nett 74 Barry Shipton on countback from Roger Short.
In the N Chinn Stableford Paul Stewart had an excellent 41pts with Mike Henderson scoring 39pts. Third was Mike Apps with 38 pts on countback from David Bryant.
