A BREAK in the weather helped to make the first countryside day at Morwellham on Sunday a great success, with more than 700 people attending.
Held to make visitors aware of the 120 acres of woodland and farmland on the estate, there were plenty of attractions, from heavy horse displays and rides to blacksmithing, archery demonstrations, ferret racing, dog shows and falconry.
Site manager Anthony Power said people were familiar with the mine, the village and the quay at Morwellham but the woodland and farm were less well known: 'We already have some trails through the wood and the farm but there are some new ones due to open in the autumn,' he said.
'We wanted to showcase the various schemes we are doing on the farm to grow local produce and promote country crafts.'
People are free to explore the area for just the cost of a £2 parking fee.
