Duchy Premier St Newlyn East 0 Lamerton 1 LAMERTON secured their best result of the season with a comprehensive performance against top of the league St Newlyn East. A decisive Rich Searle goal came late in the day as Lamerton thought they had wasted one chance too many. At the back Simon and man of the match Paul Breyley were outstanding, giving Newlyn's and league top scorer Neil Razzle absolutely nothing. It could have been five or six for Lamerton but they could not find a way past Newlyn keeper Gary Thompson, who had a fine game. Pete Daniel had a superb game between the sticks, claiming crosses and thwarting Newlyns few chances — notably intercepting Razzle, who almost got through after 20 minutes but Daniel's tackle was well timed, despite desperate claims for a penalty. James Healy had Lamerton's best chance early on when he burst through the middle to go one on one; he tried to place it but became too near to the keeper who got a hand to it. Dave Byworth had a similar chance with the ball rolling toward goal before being cleared. Searle then got down the right to cut a pass back to Swift on the edge and his well-connected shot whisked past the post. The second half was a similar story with Lamerton outplaying their opponents and creating some golden opportunities. Swift had two more inside the box, the latter seeing his shot from eight yards somehow finger tipped round the post. The away fans were able to fully enjoy a thrilling encounter, which climaxed with Searles goal eight minutes from the end. He got between two defenders to wrong foot Thompson and cap off a well-deserved victory for Lamerton.
