A TAVISTOCK charity has been given a grant to expand its mobility scheme and help more people get out and about in the town.

Devon County Council is investing £30,000 in Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) to develop a full shop mobility project in Tavistock.

The money will also be used to build an extension onto the charity's base, the Anchorage Centre, to provide space for this service.

General manager at TASS Andy Lyle said: 'Our mobility scheme has helped numerous people get out and about this year, to the Okehampton and Launceston shows, Tavistock Balloon Festival, daily around Tavistock and for some holidays in this country and abroad.

'Shopmobility will mean that we will have national recognition for the service with publicity in a wide range of national publications, and it will mean that Tavistock will be on the radar of more people wanting to visit the town and surrounding area, bringing additional revenue to the town. It will also mean that the Anchorage Centre will be signposted throughout Tavistock.

'The extension will be taking in the patio area of the Anchorage Centre, which will tidy the space up and will provide the much needed space for mobility scooters.'
