LAMERTON Hunt Pony Club is celebrating the news of their latest grant from the Community Project Fund which they can complete their plans to buy new show jumps. Club members have been raising money for the jumps for some years, originally supported by the Balloon Saloon, Hair Design of Launceston and Tinhay Building Supplies. Through their own fundraising events, including hunter trials organised by Sandy Wevill, the club raised £2,000 in two years. They received a boost last autumn with almost £5,000 of lottery funding and now they have finally reached their target with a £3,700 grant from the Community Project Fund. The money will allow the club to buy a complete set of jumps, proper timing equipment and a trailer to move the jumps around. District commissioner Helen Harris said the pony club plans to use the jumps to benefit the whole equestrian community in West Devon. She said: ?There aren?t many good quality sets of show jumps in the area. We will be holding quite a number of open events so that anyone can enter, and some events will be in aid of charity.? Mrs Harris thanked Terry Hicks, the grandfather of member Christopher, who spent a lot of time completing grant applications on behalf of the pony club. All are welcome to try out some of the new jumps, which are being used on a course for the club?s clear round show jumping and cross country day to be held at Dunterton, Milton Abbot, on April 9.
