THE curtain fell on another successful cricket season at Whitchurch, with the traditional match between Graham Curson?s Chairman?s XI and a young club side led by club captain Dean Elliott. The chairman won the toss and batted first.
Elliott and Woodrow bowled tightly until Elliott removed the two openers in quick succession. The arrival of Hulme (35) and McGahey (36) upped the tempo, until Hulme holed out to a fine catch on the boundary by Woodrow off Mansfield.
Luffman (19) made his intentions clear, with a huge six over extra cover.
The chairman?s side were threatening until Tamblin dismissed McGahey and Luffman with good catches by Ingram and Heatley. Whittaker (31) and Hill were able to maintain the run rate as their side posted a challenging total of 199 for 9 from their 40 overs.
Whitchurch youngsters Gray (28) and Woodrow (27) made a solid start, but fell behind the run rate required due to accurate bowling from Reeve, Luffman and Chetwynd.
Daymond (16) and Alford (27) fell by the wayside. 33 from Mansfield instilled hope but four wickets from Hill ensured the chairman?s side eased home by 31 runs.
