Devon Cup Kelly College 10 North Devon College 15 Kelly College bowed out of the cup in the final by the narrowest of margins at Barnstaple Rugby Football Club. From a kick to the corner, North Devon eventually opened up the Kelly defence and crossed in the corner for the first score. An unconverted try allowed Kelly to narrow the margin to two points after a well-struck penalty by fly half, James Falvey. When Kelly had settled into their new line up, they took an opportunist try by centre, Jack Newton, after a quick tap penalty saw him go from the half way line under the home team?s posts. James Falvey converted to take the score to 10 ? 5. Just before half time, Kelly conceded a penalty to see a 10 ? 8 lead at the interval to the away team. After the break Kelly dominated the second half crossing the North Devon line three times, but failing to ground the ball. This coupled with two penalty misses saw Kelly rue their mistakes. With seconds to go, the North Devon forwards kept driving at the Kelly line, eventually crossing under the posts to convert. Kelly College 11 Truro School 12 On Saturday it seemed that lady luck was still not on Kelly?s side, as they lost 12 ? 11 to Truro School with the last score of the game, having led the away team by 11 ? 7 for the majority of the second half. Again, struck by injury and players missing through illness, Kelly played out of their skins to lead the huge Cornwall school for most of the game and an opportunist try by Truro allowed them to take the lead early on 7 ? 0. Kelly scored a well-worked forward try before half time to narrow the margin to 7 - 5 at the interval. Immediately after the break Kelly camped in the opposition?s half and squeezed two early penalties through the boot of Richard Goldsby-West. In a second half that seemed to drag on and on, Truro scored in the corner to the delight of their boisterous supporters to win the game by a single point. The Kelly 1st XV looked forward to the second round of the Daily Mail Cup Vase match before embarking on a tour of Paris.
