P & D Combination League Premier Cup Final

Tavistock 1

Plymouth Parkway 0

THE P & D side under the joint management of Craig Smith and Chris Abbott won this hard fought match by just the single goal to bring the first silverware back to Langsford Park for more than a decade.

But the scoreline did not suggest the overall supremacy of the side who, had they taken their many chances, could have won by a greater margin.

The match started at a cracking pace and in the first minute Chris Gott put a close range shot straight at Parkway's keeper Andy Gammon. Sean Garside headed wide from a corner for the opposition before Gott saw another effort blocked.

It was all Tavistock for the first half-hour with Gott again seeing his effort pushed around a post by Gammon. John Gosling turned and shot just wide before Parkway had their first real chance when ex-Lambs striker Pete Tiffany clipped the ball over the bar.

The Lambs deservedly took the lead after 36 minutes. Steve Nicholson's through-ball was helped on by Gott to Gosling on the edge of the area to control, turn and roll it past a diving Gammon.

Parkway almost sneaked an equaliser two minutes before half-time when Roberts chipped keeper Craig Howells but the ball went just over the bar. Howell then prevented the opposition from opening their account with a brilliant save.

Steve Daymond saw his volley go just over the bar at the start of the second half after a Lambs corner, then a spate of bookings took place with Hawkins and Gosling upsetting the referee.

The Lambs continued to create a host of chances but could not convert any of them. Parkway came more into the game in the middle part of the half and Howells did well to save from Tiffany but it was the Lambs who finished the stronger with Halfyard attempting to chip the keeper. Hawkins shot at him and Halfyard again saw Gammon scramble a shot away with his feet.

With Plymouth Parkway's keeper Andy Gammon getting the man of the match award it showed the supremacy the Lambs had throughout.

Darren Halfyard received the cup from the P & D Chairman in front of a jubilant set of players and supporters.
