FIREFIGHTERS in Tavistock have this week issued a warning to walkers at Lydford Gorge to wear appropriate footwear, after another incident at the site. A man fell and broke his leg last Monday at the gorge and although he was wearing appropriate shoes, firefighters could see in the distance walkers who were not. Station commander Tim Smith said: ?We are called to the gorge about 14 to 15 times a year ? although this gentleman was wearing correct footwear we could see some people wearing flip flops.? The incident on Monday saw three crews from Tavistock and an ambulance from Okehampton attend the scene just before 11.40am. Firefighters and the ambulance staff removed the casualty with a national trust stretcher ? the man was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
