SAFETY will be the focus at Lydford Gorge on Saturday, June 23 when the National Trust, in partnership with Dartmoor National Park Authority, local rescue charities and branches of the emergency services, hold their first ever safety day.
There will be the opportunity to meet local firefighters, police officers, air ambulance crew, members of Dartmoor Rescue and National Park rangers.
Fay Langston, visitor services officer at Lydford Gorge said: 'This is a great opportunity for visitors and locals to come and meet people who run our local emergency services on Dartmoor and to see first hand how they carry out rescues.'
The day will also include demonstrations and live rescues from the gorge, including red watch cliff rescue from Camelshead Rescue and Dartmoor Rescue.
There will also be an opportunity to meet the Dartmoor Rescue dogs and have a go on emergency simulator machines.
The Air Sea Rescue, Police Oscar 99 and Devon Air Ambulance helicopters will also make an appearance during the day — as long as they are not involved in an emergency elsewhere.
The event runs from 10am to 4.30pm.
The normal admission charge to Lydford Gorge applies.
