WALKHAM Valley hosted old rivals Carval Computing at the Memorial Field. Carval batted first and got off to a rip roaring start. Having taken his toll to the tune of 20 runs, Stone was then bowled by Simon Ward and Mark Eagle quickly followed, well caught in the deep by James Hills off Ken Kay. Mason then joined Lewis quickly amassing 27 runs and retiring, while Lewis continued to chip away at the other end. Chris Sweby kept up the momentum with an adventurous 25 including a couple of sixes before he too retired. Lewis was then run out by Chandler for 18 and Jefferson fell to a stunning one handed catch behind the wicket by Kevin Baxter off Graham Vincent. Roger Smith survived some neat bowling by his son Mark and clobbered a couple of boundaries before he was snared by Bill Tynan for 10. Dave Eagle also went to the guile of Bill Tynan, this time well caught by wicketkeeper Baxter. Avent, 17 and Jason Sweby, 7 then plundered another 30 runs, leaving the visitors on 139 for 6. Tynan, 2 for 15, G Vincent 1 for 9, Ward 1 for 21 and Kay 1 for 25 shared the bowling wickets, though Hills with 0 for 6 from 3 overs was the pick of them all, and Simon Stokes on his debut bowled creditably. Walkham Valley got off to a turgid start scoring a meagre 5 runs off the first 4 overs. Carval?s bowlers were unrelenting in their accuracy. A convincing win and a good start to their season for the visitors!
