Tavistock Ladies first 3 East Culm Valley Hornets 2 IT was some time before Tavistock felt fully in control of the game. Some good passing from Tavistock's Laura Armstrong through to the midfield play of Sarah Holton and Chloe Bassett allowed the ball to be pushed up the pitch for Nikki Woodroffe and Judy Miller to chase in the opposition's D. Tavistock had numerous short corners awarded to them and although they were well executed the opposition were out fast and strong. Robynne Honey had a good game as she had been out for a few weeks due to an injury — she made some lovely crosses into the D and it was through one of these that Woodroffe got on the end of and scored the opening goal for the home side. The opposition were quick to find the space and broke through the defence of Tavistock to equalise and good defending from Lisa Butler, Fiona Dunn and Susannah Boulle prevented the opposition from breaking through again in the first half while Laura Stapleton created attacking opportunities in midfield. It was Armstrong who scored the second goal for Tavistock. In the second half Tavistock played some excellent hockey and needed the third goal to secure victory. Dunn had a good run up the pitch and was just about to strike when a stick tackle was made just outside the D. Unfortunately the decision went to the opposition and Tavistock had to turn and face the ball. Tavistock were the dominant team but a ball was intercepted which resulted in East Culm scoring again. Tavistock worked hard and when the final whistle went felt pleased that they had kept up the work rate to secure the win.
