Okehampton U13s 17

Ivybridge U13s 19

THIS was a cracking game of rugby with both sides running the ball at every opportunity, showing good skill levels under wet and cold conditions.

Okehampton threw down the gauntlet early on. Hooker Tom McGratton won an Ivybridge scrum on Okehampton's 22. The ball was quickly moved to centre Carl Poynten who carved through the Ivybridge defence to score under the post, adding the conversion.

Ivybridge then scored to level, but Poynten kicked a penalty to lead 10-7 at half-time.

Early in the second half the Ivybridge scrum-half scored a good individual try to make it 10-12.

Okehampton hit back when centre David Binns picked up a loose Ivybridge pass, cut inside his opposite number, drew the full-back to put Poynten away again to score under the post and convert.

Ivybridge managed to score a try and convert just before full time to win.

OKEHAMPTON travelled to Ivybridge without any subs so they knew it was going to be a tough game against fresh legs being brought on at regular intervals.

Okehampton played an excellent first half with Josh Bickley and Billie Searle breaking away to score early on.

Joshua Punchard was everywhere on the pitch tackling anyone who looked like making a break.

Ivybridge did sneak back a try just before halt-time.

After the break Okehampton's tired legs were showing and Ivybridge scored two tries one after the other.

Kyle May started with a pass out to Lewis Day who had a great run, supported by Josh Bickley, side-stepping in for his second try.

Callum Barber had his first game for Okehampton and was involved in a great game and a much deserved win.

Player of the match: Alfie Hawker.
