RESULTS were mixed in the league for Tavistock Tennis Club last week The men found it tough going but the ladies had good results with the B team having its first win and the C team losing by the closest of margins in a hard fought tie-break.

The juniors? first team performed well against the division leaders Whiteford Rd and the second team had a resounding win over Plympton A. It was unfortunate that the third team had to concede the match v Hill Lane B.

Results for week 8 - Seniors: Men?s A team drew 5-5 away to St Budeaux A, just losing a close tie break. Ray Hinton/Sean Jefferson v their 1st pair; 2-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 6-2. Simon Thomas/Chris Hill v their 1st pair; 6-2, 0-6, 6-3: v 2nd pair; 6-2, 2-6, 6-7.

B team lost 3-7 away to Ivybridge C. Phil Harbottle/Owen Locker v their 1st pair; 3-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair; 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. Jonathan Stephens/Eirian Jones v their 1st pair; 3-6, 0-6: v 2nd pair; 4-6, 6-2, 4-6.

C team lost 3-6 at home against Russell Avenue A. Damian Heard/Rick Read v their 1st pair; 2-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair; 6-3, 6-2. David Isaac/Tim Wallis v their 1st pair; 3-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 1-6, 1-6.

D team lost 0-8 away against Liskeard where it was unfortunate that the Club could only field one pair due to unforeseen circumstances. Mike Jefferies/Russell/Rice v their 1st pair; 2-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 3-6, 4-6. 2nd match 0-4 sets W/O.

Ladies? A team won 6-2 at home against Hill Lane. Tric Locker/Tori Cunningham v their 1st pair; 6-4, 6-2: v 2nd pair; 6-0, 6-0. Sue Parsons/Tric Mowle v their 1st pair; 3-6, 2-6: v 2nd pair; 6-0, 6-0.

B team won 6-3 at home against Ivybridge D Anne Bruce/Sara Whyman v their 1st pair; 6-3, 3-6, 6-2: v 2nd pair; 6-0, 6-1. Melody Mason/Claudine Sparks v their 1st pair; 1-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair: 7-6, 6-1.

C team lost 4-5 away against St Mellion B. Sue Whitman/Jenny/Robins v their 1st pair; 7-5, 4-6, 6-4: v 2nd pair; 6-0, 6-2. Babette Jackson/Claire, who played well in her first league match, v their 1st pair; 3-6, 5-7: v 2nd pair; 4-6, 6-7.

Juniors: 1st team lost 34-49 away to Whiteford Rd who are currently top of the division. Russell Rice v their 1st player; 7-6, 6-4. Ashley Rice/James Martin v their 1st pair; 2-6, 3-6. James v their 2nd player; 3-6, 6-3. Russell/Ashley v their 2nd pair 5-7, 0-6.

2nd team won 53-24 at home against Plympton A. Peter Bloomfield v their 1st player; 6-2, 6-2. Jamie Osbourne/Stephen Richardson v their 1st pair; 6-2, 6-4. Jamie v their 2nd player; 6-0, 6-7. Peter/Stephen v their 2nd pair; 6-3, 6-4.

l Club junior Rhys Dunford in the fourth stage of the preliminary round robin matches of the Devon Robinson Challenge at Torquay, played four one set matches in one day with results: 6-0, 6-1, 2-6, 1-6, meeting strong opposition in the last two.

Based on results to date Rhys has been awarded an official LTA rating of 7.3 which is independent of age.
