A CAMPAIGN by residents to restore a track that has not been used for 20 years has been successful.

The track from Middlemoor to Shortdown used to be used by people driving their pony and trap to Tavistock.

About 20 years ago, the drain diverting water from running down the track was removed, and over the subsequent years the track eroded to bedrock by cascading water.

James Allenby, from Middlemoor, said: 'It became too dangerous to ride a horse up it and walking had become extremely hazardous. Residents in Middlemoor have campaigned protractedly for the drain to be replaced and the track repaired. At last someone has listened.

'We would like to say a big thank you to Paul Glanville of the Dartmoor National Park who has organised and overseen the work. John Pengelly and his son Nick have built a traditional Dartmoor stone drain to divert the water and have moved a huge amount of rubble in repairing the track. A very satisfactory result for us all.'
