STAFF and pupils at Spreyton Primary School are celebrating after being judged as a good school in a recent Ofsted inspection.
The inspection was carried out under the new, more rigorous Ofsted framework, which staff at the school feel makes their rise from their previous 'satisfactory' judgement in January 2012 to 'good' this year a great achievement.
The 26-pupil school was visited last month by an inspector who observed 10 lessons, playtime breaks and an assembly, and spoke to pupils, staff, governors and parents.
The report highlighted that all staff provide exemplary care and support and the school's warm, welcoming atmosphere 'strongly promotes the pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development'.
It was also stated in the report that teaching was good and occasionally outstanding, and that teaching assistants were very skilled at supporting children's learning.
The inspector felt the pupils behaved well and shared friendly relationships with each other and all the adults who work in the school, and that the head of school and governing body, 'well directed by the acting executive head teacher' provides good leadership.
Head of School Lois Briard said: 'Spreyton is a wonderful school with happy children, a dedicated staff team and supportive parents.
'The report clearly acknowledges the significant improvements that have been made since our school was previously inspected and I am absolutely delighted that the tremendous hard work of the staff and children has been recognised.
'We are a small school offering big opportunities.'
