A NEW transport service for wheelchair users is being launched at the Anchorage Centre next month. Tavistock Area Disabled Fellowship Club, in partnership with Tavistock Area Support Services, is planning to run a purpose-built vehicle capable of taking two wheelchair users and four people. The idea behind this venture is to have a vehicle wheelchair users can access for activities, appointments and outings. This can be booked by themselves, residential or nursing homes, or family and friends, giving them a choice and the chance to access activities that usually, due to lack of specialised transport, would be outside their capability. Rosie Farrent, chairperson of the fellowship club, said: 'This is a wonderful venture, with support from local trust funds to purchase the vehicle. It will make such a difference to so many people who would not be able to access services if it were not for this transport.' This service will be launched at the Anchorage Centre on December 7 at 12.30pm. For more information contact Andy Lyle on 01822 616958.
