THE annual Rotary ‘Guess the weight of the geese’ competition at Tavistock’s Goose Fair was won by a visitor to the town —Tina Hemmings from Brixham, who guessed the weight of the geese precisely at 10.6kgs.

This year, Tavistock Rotary Club and colleagues from Inner Wheel raised the magnificent sum of more than £1,500 from the competition, their bookstall, ‘This and That’ stall, soft toy stall, ShelterBox display and Crocuses for Polio.

All of the cash raised will go to local charities and international charities such as Haiti Relief and Polio eradication.

Rotary president Catherine Bailey said: ‘I’d like to thank everyone involved in what was a truly excellent day — people who set up the stalls, staffed them throughout the day and tidied up afterwards. But, most of all, I’d like to thank the people of Tavistock for their wonderful support. Without them we could not have made such a contribution toward disaster relief and polio eradication.

‘We’ll see you again on Dickensian Evening — Father Christmas has confirmed that he’ll be coming to Tavistock that evening to say hello to all his friends.’
