HURDWICK Golf Club held its annual mixed open on Sunday. From the outset, the event was plagued with swirling mist which turned to heavy drizzle before clearing at the end of the day. The leading pair produced a really good result in these conditions and Paul Bryant from Hurdwick, partnered by Jean Gledhall from St Mellion, finished with 37 points to become 2005 winners. Second with 32 points were club captain John Rea, partnered by Rosemary Rea. Third with 31 points were Mr and Mrs R Davie from St Mellion and fourth place was taken by Hurdwick pair, Peter Brookbank and Sally Arscott with 30 points. The men?s longest drive was achieved by Paul Bryant (Hurdwick) and the ladies by Dawn Phillott (Okehampton). Men?s nearest the pin winner was R Davie (St Mellion) and the ladies was Lesley Smith (Hurdwick). In the first two men?s matches of 2005, the Hurdwick team beat Fingle Glen at home by 4-2 and won at Whitsand Bay by 3.5 to 2.5.
