THE Juniors at Okehampton Golf Club have done extremely well again this year. Having reached the finals last year they played Downes Crediton Away last weekend and managed a 3-3 draw. This earned them enough points to reach the play off finals for the second consecutive year, which will be against Exeter Golf and Country Club at Teign Valley GC. The ladies had no competition this week as the Moroccan Salver finals were held at the club on Wednesday. Ilfracombe ladies won on the day and go to Morocco to play in the grand final. Penny Deakin and Mary Keir were close runners up but the two point deduction for playing on their home course cost them. 116 men turned out on bank holiday Saturday to play for the Charles Pedrick Shield, a fourball better ball medal. Winning division one were Malcolm Hill and Kevin Cornwall with an excellent net 59; second were Harry Hawking and Fred Cooke net 60, third were Graham Pengelly and Nick Atkinson net 61 and fourth were Gordon Parker and Stuart Lewis net 62. Winning division two and the Charles Pedrick Shield were Adam Clark and Dan Curtis, second Nick Hobbs and Phil Griffin also net 59, third were Pete Grimley and Jim Dunlop net 62, and fourth were Paul Skidmore and Russell Dibble also net 62. Sunday saw the vice captain Allen Deakin leading a friendly mixed match against Portmore at home. Allen and his wife Penny were giving 10 shots and lost 2 ?1. Lady captain Eileen Piper and her husband Ray halved their match. Cherry James and husband George won 3 ? 2. Peter and Shirley Stunnell won on the 18th, and Ted and Jo Boswell had the most emphatic win of 7 ? 5 to make it a 3-1 match victory for Okehampton.
